Catarrh
What is Catarrh?
Post nasal drip or catarrh is the the sensation of thick phlegm in the throat. When the thick phlegm stagnates in the back of the nose and throat it tends to irritate the lining and hence cause annoying symptoms. It can be a difficult symptom to eradicate.
Treatment of postnasal drip
The strategies used to treat postnasal drip is as follows:
1.all easily treatable causes must be identified and treated appropriately, e.g sinusitis, allergies etc.
2.Use nasal irrigation with hypertonic saline solutions to get rid of the thick stagnated mucus from the inside of the nose.
3.Some experts advocate drinking ice cold water when one has the sensation of catarrh at the back of the throat. The idea being to shift any thick mucus that is stagnated at the back of the throat and is causing the irritation.
